Facebook Copies Snapchat Features Again

The networking giant is currently testing its “Stories” in Ireland – again. Earlier, Facebook made 2 attempts to copy the feature from Snapchat, 2 attempts of acquisitions – of Snapchat and of a Chinese firm developing Snapchat-style camera applications, released 4 standalone applications, and saw 2 ephemeral messaging implementations and 5 new cameras with AR lenses.
Facebook Copies Snapchat Features Again
In the most recent attempt to finally destroy Snapchat for good, the social networking giant launched a trial of its Snapchat Stories-style feature right in the main Facebook app. The test is currently being run only in Ireland. The industry experts point out that it is the third time Facebook has released a feature identical to Snapchat’s. As you may remember, Instagram copied Stories almost half a year ago. Instagram’s head of product explicitly acknowledged the inspiration, telling in the interview that they built on a format invented by Snapchat”.

Another Facebook-owned service, WhatsApp, also started testing a version of the Snapchat format dubbed “Status” in November. However, this feature hasn’t been introduced to the bulk of users yet, and it remains unknown whether it ever will. Facebook expressed hopes to bring Stories to the rest of the world in the nearest future, suggesting that the new feature will not be limited to Ireland for long.
