Kim Dotcom Wants New US Attorney-General to Review His Case

MegaUpload
founder expects the US Justice Department to review his case in the
wake of the election of Donald Trump. Indeed, High Court judge has been
deliberating for 5 months on whether to uphold or overturn a District
Court ruling in Dotcom’s extradition case. The ruling in question
approved Kim’s extradition to the US on copyright and racketeering
charges.
In
any case, High Court’s ruling does not necessarily have to be the last
resort in Dotcom’s extradition case, as the losing party can likely take
the case to the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
While the US Senate has confirmed Trump's choice for new attorney-general, Dotcom is not sure the Trump Administration would appeal if the High Court ruled in his favor.
Trump appointed Jeff Sessions, 70, the new US attorney-general, and his choice was confirmed by the US Senate. Kim Dotcom believes that Jeff Sessions will have to look at the most complicated cases, including his.
Dotcom believes that the court is going to rule in his favor, because it takes the judge such a long time to finalize his ruling. The MegaUpload founder tweeted against Clinton during the US presidential election campaign, but it is unknown whether he had approached the Trump Administration about his extradition case.
Dotcom and three of his MegaUpload colleagues have been accused of damaging the movie studios and publishers in the amount of $500m through facilitating piracy via MegaUpload storage service. The defendants have denied any criminal intent, and their prosecution would be a test case. Within it, the High Court may need to decide whether any of the alleged offences would be extraditable.
Kim Dotcom claims that the copyright owners lobbied the Obama Administration to bring criminal charges against MegaUpload 6 years ago as a price for Hollywood's continued support for the Democratic Party. As for Trump, Dotcom believes that he is not a fan of Hollywood, since the content creators are largely against him. Dotcom also said that he would only get a day's heads-up of when the High Court would issue its ruling. The MegaUpload founder is going to sue both NZ and US authorities upon successfully fighting his extradition, pointing out that they have already wasted $30m of taxpayers' money on his prosecution.
