Facebook Continues Copying Snapchat Features

Facebook
has long been known for trying to repeat a success of the well-known
image-sharing service Snapchat: it has already introduced 2 versions of
Stories, attempted 2 acquisitions (of Snapchat and a Chinese company
making similar camera apps), made 4 standalone apps, bundled 2 ephemeral
messaging implementations and created 5 new cameras with AR lenses.
Now the reports are that Facebook began testing out a new feature in its app, dubbed “direct photos and videos”. The new feature is built into the camera in the app and allows you to send images and videos to your friends straight from the camera interface (like Snapchat does). The message can be viewed only twice before disappearing forever (like in Snapchat). It is also suggested that the camera itself has some filters (like Snapchat does).
Moreover, it also became known that Facebook-owned WhatsApp also introduced a new feature: Status. It allows you to take pictures, add stickers and drawings, and share them to all your contacts for one day. This is now added to the original, text-only, status feature – moreover, it is almost identical to Snapchat Stories (and Instagram Stories).
WhatsApp Status will appeal to the privacy-conscious users thanks to the fact that all the status updates are end-to-end encrypted, thus effectively preventing man-in-the-middle attacks from eavesdropping on you. The observers (and critics) have already documented WhatsApp Status once before, when the feature was leaked in November 2016. Many representatives of the tech industry criticized Facebook for copying Snapchat features, saying that when you directly copy someone, that’s not innovation.
